I have heard that there is some stuff rumbling around our Army, theological debate and things to cause us to stop and ponder why we exist and who we exist for and what makes us distinctive. I 'm not sure I get why we need to be distinctive to any other church...why does it matter ? With my Baptist , AOG, Church of Christ and Anglican friends we all form the universal church of the Lord Jesus Christ, one church in many different locations and styles, but one church, one bride, We are a part of that, and if we are not...then I'm out of here.
Without going into detail and getting myself sacked... I guess I wonder why it is we major on minor issues in our Army.
it seems to me that some of the stuff we seem to get uptight about just isn't worth it.
we are called to be the SALVATION Army where we are a means for seeing people saved, why we would then major on issues that are secondary to that fact is beyond me.
here is the bottom line, for me at least, when I stand before the throne of God, I will give an account for my actions and attitudes and behaviours, (and that will be enough for me to worry about) as I understand it, there will be no other Salvo officer with me, defending or criticising me, just me and God....
do I agree with everything in this Army ? NO WAY !!!
do I need to ? NO WAY !!!
do I need to be in and under submission to it ? I think so, while God leaves me in this Army I do, but I will never go against what I believe God asks me to do and be, EVER. even if that is contrary to the Army's systems and beliefs,
after all we wouldn't exist if Booth hadn't challenged the doctrine and theology of his day and the systems he was in.
It's hard enough at times fighting the evil in this world never alone picking fights with stuff that is not worth fighting and arguing about.
Oh that we would become the fighting Army that Booth saw in the beginning, standing for injustice and salvation for all people, and not caught up in internal theology and issues that simply, at the end of the day, just don't matter.
