What a great day Good Friday really is...it should be called Great Friday not good Friday...today in our church we decided to get together for feast of love, over hot cross buns and coffee, some may call it communion, doesn't matter what you call it, when Christ said do this in remembrance of me, we did.... remembering his death today, on such a significant day.
It started off as a small cell group getting together to be the church together, it ended up 43 of us and it was very special, we had a great time, .....................on days like today, I just love my church so much....
Calvin Miller's quote, said "Countless people have seen the cross, but very few actually carry it " Formed the basis of the devotional I shared today, as we were challenged by Christ Himself to take up our cross and follow him..... whatever that means in today's context is the real challenge isn't it ?
Remaining relevant and yet true....... communicating effectively to a lost world with a truth that transforms...and not losing our way in inhibiting and dis empowering traditions that speak only to a generation past...
Oh the challenge is huge, but I still believe that there are a few really good Salvos up to that huge task.... I'd like to think I am up to it.... I want to make a difference to this world and not just be irrelevant on the back streets doing little to change anything. Not a bystander. But a Player.
So today is a Great Friday, God is Great, My church is Great....
as I reflected on what I thought Jesus might have us do today...I decided that he would have us gather together as His family to thank him, celebrate Him in what He has given us in the hope we profess, the love we share, the history that points us to the future - and best of all, that He gave us His life and gave us such a thing called His church.... and that is Great.
Roll on Sunday....
