I've just returned from visiting a close friend and colleague who is about to be promoted to glory... (for those who don't know what that means just ask...) it was a sad occasion yet a time when it is worth being reminded of what it is we do and why we do it...and that's all about the bottom line.
we officers believe that we are here to prepare people for death, (which actually means eternal life) and that means we believe more in what lays behind the curtain of death than what we see this side...in human life.
as I was talking with my friend, the husband of my other friend, who is about to go be with the Lord...we discussed the fact that this is what we live for really, and whilst it is sad for those who are left and we miss our friends and family... ultimately it's why we exist.... to be prepared for death and to prepare others for it.
its not a morbid subject it should be one of great expectation and hope, and in this case it is.
these guys love the Lord and have served him faithfully as officers for years now...at one time they were soldiers in my corps and I was once their corps officer....now, death is close I can barely believe it ...but there it is in our face, and are we ready ? well truth is, we are not, is she ready ?, absolutely.... will we mourn, we already are.... but we can trust in the promise that Jesus said, that those that mourn, will in fact be blessed and comforted and that's what I am praying for these days.
the bottom line is being ready and prepared.
